Health Outreach Website: The Science of Weight Control

I created a website explaining why weight maintenance is difficult from a physiological perspective. This outreach project was meant to be applicable and helpful for a wider audience.

I wanted the content to be inclusive and helpful for people with all kinds of questions about this topic. The language I used focused on accessibility and accuracy.

Instead of focusing solely on weight loss or weight gain, which often happens with these kinds of resources, I used terms like “weight control” and “weight management.”

Using inclusive language would avoid excluding users across the weight or BMI spectrum, including those who may want to maintain their size but are struggling with changing their diet to address excess hunger, cravings, or tiredness.

Because I was writing for a lay audience via a digital medium, I kept sentences short; incorporated chunking, bullets, and tables to keep the content readable; and used headlines to guide readers through the information.

I also broke down the content into a series of sections on linked pages so that readers would be guided through the information in a logical order for usability. At the same time, I provided clear navigation at the top of the page so users could return to previous pages easily.
