MedlinePlus Usability Study & Wireframe Redesign

I created a usability study to test how user-friendly the organization and content design was on the MedlinePlus website. This site, run by the US National Library of Medicine, has a rather outdated design and is difficult to navigate.

Based on the usability test script that I wrote, the participant I recruited had a difficult time with the informational design of the website. I thoroughly broke down the usability problems into multiple sections and paragraphs, documented with relevant screenshots.

In my report, I described how the poor usability of the site and its content design could be improved to benefit the lay – and likely older – site audience.

Then, I developed a new layout and visual design for the home page and a sample content page. My new design is shown in the wireframes included after my report.

I used Figma to implement my findings from this usability study into a design that makes the content pages readable and links related pages more intuitively.
